Yeehaw

We’re home.

We survived a trek back that included, but was not limited to:

-a cancelled flight

-a new 6AM flight

-a 2:30AM wake-up call (We woke Anderson up whispering in his ear, “it’s time for the airplane…” His eyes shot open, he sat straight up in bed and clapped.)

-a missed exit

-an unexpected toll road

-a last minute “stuff shuffle” at the ticket counter to make our one checked suitcase <50 lbs. Yeah, we were that family.

-a $49 charge for having a “<50 lbs but still oversized” suitcase

-a lot of sweating and fuming

-a unique opportunity to be right there as a passenger clutched my armrest, started shaking, PASSED OUT, hit the plane floor, came to and VOMITED

-a mad dash in Milwaukee to catch our 2nd flight

-1 spilled orange juice

-1 fussy, overtired baby

-2 flights (or as Anderson describes: “flies through sky just like Buzz”)

-a 30 minute wait for a shuttle

-a TWO HOUR ride home (we’re only 35 miles from the airport)

-1 massive suitcase, 2 car seats, 1 double stroller, 3 carry-ons, 1 diaper bag, 1 monkey back pack and 1 bag of snacks

It wasn’t great.

But Texas sure was…

Cowboy Christmas coming your way, y’all. Stay tuned.

If We Can Make It There…

Speaking of weddings, we went to Peter & Noelle’s wedding in Manhattan 20 years ago.  Okay, it was in August, but it seems like forever ago.  Max was only six weeks old! I wrote a post about it, never quite finished it, never published it, then we moved and my life got nuts.  Now I’ve spent way too long trying to clean it up and make the pictures bigger, and Live Writer is having serious slowness issues (my plethora of pictures probably has something to do with it).  So I’m stopping now and publishing it as is.  Yippe!

***************************************************************************

Two weeks ago we, with our brave friends, the Manns, lugged 4 kids (ages 3, 2.5, 5 mo. and 6 weeks) and about 86 bags to New York City.

A little bit crazy, a lot exhausting but overall FABULOUS.  We heart NYC, so we jumped at the opportunity to go.  Even if it meant the schlep.

The reason?  Team member Peter, got hitched.

This trip (and it was definitely a TRIP), can be broken up in to 7 sections:

1.  THE SCHLEP  Let’s be honest.  New York City is probably the least schlep-friendly city on the planet.  Here’s what we brought and here’s how we did it.

Not pictured:  stroller, Anderson’s massive car seat and the wedding gift, which we ended up forgetting at the hotel.

What do the Manns do when they forget their Bjorn and both kids need a ride?  Make a single stroller from a double, of course, by using the basket.  Brilliant.

The previously terrifying monkey backpack is now ADORED.  Just in time for Manhattan.  Anderson WOULD NOT WEAR IT, but he carried it around EVERYWHERE.

I kind of hate this picture.  But it’s so telling of the weekend.

2.  THE WEDDING   Which was lovely.  We are so happy for Peter.

Drew & Kara made EXCELLENT travel companions.  We’ve decided they are kind of our DC family.  Harley and Drew served missions together in Hungary.  Kara has become my dear girlfriend.

My good friend Marie and her husband Brandon met up with us in Battery Park.   Marie & I used to live this life together at KSL.  Now she (and Brandon) are hot shot NYC lawyers.

I think this is the only shot we got of the entire gang:  Wendy & Max, Harley & Anderson, Drew & Makenna, Addison & Kara.

6.  THE FASHION   It was good.  And it was baaaaaad.

DSC_0063

Beautiful, classy bride.  Pete looked pretty sharp too.

Remember the necklace I LOVED and coveted for months then found at Target for $3.74?  This is it!

DSC_0168

Max rocked an old Anderson gift from Emily.  Super cute and homemade!

Enter the bad fashion.  Really, Harley?  Really?

Much better, Max

7.  AND FINALLY THE QUALITY PARENTING MOMENT IN TIMES SQUARE

We immediately took him into the largest toy store in the world.  Where he slept.

DSC_0265   We’re happy to be there.  Even if our kid is a party pooper.

Oh and did I mention THE SCHLEP?

DSC_0222

Worth it?  Oh yeah.  We’ll make it anywhere.
