Shovention

I’m behind on this blog. The very word “blog” overwhelms me. While I’m at it, I’ll tell you Google Reader is too much to handle right now too.

However, something is going down in the King household (The Dream Townhouse household) that must. be. blogged.

I’m skipping the surprise family reunion in Pittsburgh. Forget Max’s blessing, our move, my in-laws’ visit, an NYC trip way back in August, Anderson’s new bunk beds, and my kids’ latest and greatest (and oh, there is greatness to be shared). Most of all, I’m dying to tell you the details of our new place. But no. All that can wait. This can’t.

We have a fashion emergency people.

My sweet, misguided husband seems to think these shoes are hot.

I think they look like an umpa-lumpa’s face.

He tells me they are his new running shoes. If that were truly the case, I’d say, awesome. I’m all about loud, fun running shoes. Plus his feet will glow in these, naturally acting as reflectors on the road, so that’s a safety bonus. However, Harley and I both know these will quickly turn into his everyday/date night/going out/traveling (“I only have room to pack one pair!”)/wear with non-running clothes/wear to the lab/wear EVERYwhere ALL the time except to church shoes.

That’s where we can’t agree. Harley thinks that’s okay. He thinks this non-running outfit is perfectly acceptable:

We both think the other is so wrong about whether or not these are cool, go-with-everything-everyday shoes and neither of us is willing to break. We casually left the shoes out (read: on the fireplace mantle) while I hosted three girlfriends for cookies and chatting this week. They were less than impressed with Harley’s new kicks. Some of their comments were almost as colorful as the shoes themselves. Still, Harley was not convinced. We took the debate to the most fashionable couple we know. I think they’re too busy being blinded by the sun trapped in these shoes to reply.

So we’re going big. Blog big. We promised each other the fate of the shoes remains entirely on the comments of this entry.

Let us reverently remember the flag shirt flies on. He won that blog battle. We take these votes seriously. So please, vote seriously.

Sorry Wendy, I like them. Wear on Harley.

Jonathan's vote - in favor of the shoes.

Oh Wendy you win hands down. As I was scrolling down to the bottom of the nonrunning outfit the shoes definitely stood out as I got to them. I don't think they worked. Maybe be can get use out of them on halloween.

I'm team Wendy. The Oopma Loompas were locked in the chocolate factory for a reason.

If anyone can pull of a look so bold, it's Harley King. Rock on. The shoes are cool.

Definitely not with the outfit pictured - that cannot be allowed. But I could see a few outfits it might be okay with. Like a gray shirt and jeans, maybe. I have to say no for my vote though, if they end up being his everyday shoes.

no no no to the shoes! (can that be three votes?!)

Sorry Harley, it's a no. Especially red shirt and bright orange shoes, definitely a no, a BIG one. However, awesome RUNNING shoes! They really are great if worn for that.

Harley keep the shoes and wear them with pride! Who's to say everything women wear appeal to men, yet when men have an opnion they are stupid and don't know what they are talking about. Be strong and don't let anyone "walk all over you" BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE COOL SHOES.

Your favorite mother-in-law.

p.s. Orange is so in right now and it's my favorite color.

Well, since I used to be a shoe-dog at Nordstrom, I think my vote should count double. Harley is in the right: the shoes are fabulous. They will grow on you, just as al of the DIVA accessories, at first atrocious to the conservative Team member, grew on Harley. Be thankful he is not wearing socks and sandals as many men still do.... :)

Sorry Harley. Wendy wins this one 100%! Are you a Denver broncos fan? Maybe the bloggers would give you a pass just once, to wear them to a broncos game? :)

I like the shoes and I like freedom of expression. Madi LOVES the shoes and wants me to get a pair, where did you get them. I love Puma shoes. And my dad said President Monson says choice is good and he votes for Harley to do what he wants. 3 votes for the orange dream machine.

I vote no, though I would be willing to see the shoes worn with no other colors - gray or black or white would be acceptable, particularly in October. Otherwise - just for running. They're freaking awesome running shoes, though!

Said it on Wed. night, say it again...I'm voting with my girl, Harley. Wendy's got this one. So, so. sorry.

I like the shoes. But what I really want is the number for the tanning salon that the guy in the last picture uses. AWESOME

I like the shoes, but not with khaki pants. Fun for running and maybe w/ jeans, but not all the time. So I guess my vote is with Wendy?

Let's break this down:
1 point for Harley because they're Pumas. I think even Team Wendy can't argue that.
1 point for Wendy because, c'mon, who really wears orange shoes?
1 point for Harley because if you're going to wear something loud you have to wear it proud, and clearly that's the case here.
1 point for Harley because the best comparison Wendy could come up with was Oompa Loompas. Bit of a stretch for someone of her creative capacity.
1 point to Wendy because these appear to be meant for running and not every-occasion use.
0.5 point for Wendy because as the woman of the house and all fashion arguments have be tilted in her favor.
But the numbers don't lie. The shoes stay.

One vote for Harley. I mean for THE shoe. I love it. (though I think it would be even better in green :))

The shoes would be okay if worn with the "right outfit" as has been mentioned previously in comments. I think the readers have missed the ENTIRE point of Wendy's argument: the shoes will be worn everywhere but church.

I have bright yellow shoes and purple shoes, but I only wear them with color-complementing outfits.

Vote, Wendy.

ha, ha...I love that you skipped all huge events in your life to blog this post.

Are the shoes fashionable...not really..do I think Harley should wear and rock them...yes. To each his own. Let him be his own person and wear what he wants to wear.

I'm not afraid to vote with Wendy (I'm still sorry about the short white sleeve dress shirts, Harley). But Orange is good, Puma is better, and it wouldn't be Harley if he weren't allowed kicks that rate just this side of deviant.

Kell's Belles said...

If he promises not to wear them with a red shirt again, they can stay. I love a shoe that gives a great pop of color. Especially those sweet Pumas!

Michelle said...

Sorry Wendy, I like them too. Good for Harley for wanting to go big and bold!

janaemadsen said...

I think these should only be worn with a suit and orange tie. definitely not with red. I don't like them personally, but I will vote no, because I think it matters what your wife thinks.

You know I've got your back on this one Wendy & quite frankly I'm surprised Jessica doesn't. Just sayin'.

Running shoes = great
Everyday shoes = not a chance

I hope you win this one Wendy!!!

When is the voting deadline? In order to make an informed and educated decision, I need to do some research on the trends and fashion winds back East...cross reference with previous fashion and excercise wear, etc.

voting in favor of the kicks.

Sorry, Wendy. I helped you move...that still keeps me in your good graces. Right?

Alex and Katie said...

Alex thinks you should get them in white. So I guess he is voting no.

I like them. I have orange shoes I love. I personally couldnt wear them everyday all the time, but that is more because I am a girl and get bored too easy!

I also agree with all the outfit comments though, not with the red shirt. Gray, white, blue jeans, blue. I like em!

Also I think people should be allowed to dress themselves. If they want advice then great give it, if they dont, well its not like you are wearing it.

I say Bye to the shoes!

I'm also a fan of the shoes, but definitely not with that outfit. Jeans and a bright blue shirt? Yes. Running shoes? Yes. Everyday shoes, with any outfit? NO.

P.S. Have I mentioned yet CONGRATULATIONS on a beautiful baby??? I've been loving reading all about Max and his great big brother :)

Harley's right that the shoes are sick, keep the shoes, wear 'em until you tear 'em; however, wendy's right that the displayed outfit does not work. The (dark) red and white stripes do not work with bright orange & purple, try a plain white tee, or something complimentary color-wise.
